The food industry and nanotechnology

Lund University Commissioned Education gives the course "Nanotechnology in food processing, packaging and safety" on 21-13 September.

Nanotechnology exhibits great potential for the food industry. New methods for processing nanostructures are being developed having novel properties that were not previously possible. Parallel to the development of nanostructure
fabrication techniques, nanoscale analysing methods are being developed, which can provide new knowledge and explanations to previously empirically
gained knowledge.

This course is appropriate for those who are interested in nanotechnology, but not an expert in the field.

The aim of the course is to provide participants with a broad knowledge of nanotools for fabrication and analysis that are currently being used, or that could be used in the near future for foods and food packaging. Participants
will also gain knowledge about present, coming and future applications of nanostructures. Furthermore, the participants shall gain enough knowledge to explore further this exciting field and to develop their own
ideas, new products, and processes.

The course teachers are researchers from the departments of Food Technology, Physical Chemistry and Applied Biochemistry at Lund University and The Nanometer Structure Consortium - the Swedish centre for nanoscience and nanotechnology. Scientists from Lund University will lecture at the course, as well as experts from Wageningen University (NL), Unilever (NL), Alfa Laval (DK), Lonza (CH) and Innventia, a world leader in R&D in pulp, paper and packaging.
